A great big thanks to everyone that came out to Palmer DQ for our fundraiser! I am not sure of the total yet, but I know that we raised several hundred dollars for Caitlin's dog and we are very thankful to DQ, the employees there (including my own daughter Ashley that normally works at the Wasilla DQ, but volunteered her time to help at Palmer DQ tonight), and all of the wonderful people that showed up to support us.
We had several friends come out to have dinner, dessert (or both!) to help our Caitibug and we really loved seeing you. It was also so nice to meet new people that are thinking so positively for our daughter. Including The Scott's that drove out from Anchorage without even knowing us, just hearing our story were there to offer their own dog for Caitlin's needs if possible--and Michael that just happened to be in DQ, then went to get his father Denny to come back and share some kind words with us--as well as many other that stopped in to help and offer words of encouragement, the kindness just fills our hearts.
We will be holding a fundraiser at the Wasilla DQ on April 9 from 4-7 PM. The other upcoming event is a planning meeting this upcoming Monday 3/23 at 7 PM. If you are interested in sharing ideas and/or helping to organize the dinner on 4/25, please let me know by emailing rebeccainak@aol.com and I will give you further details.

We are awaiting the training of a seizure assistance service dog for our 4 year old daughter Caitlin. We have so much gratitude for all of the donors and volunteers that helped us make this dog possible for our Caitibug! We are still accepting donations to the family for travel expenses, but fundraising for the dog is complete! :) Thank You!
About Caitlin
4 year old Caitlin suffers from Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, a non-curable disease that causes tumors to grow in major body organs. She has several brain tumors that cause a severe, difficult to control seizure disorder. Due to the stress this puts on her little nervous system, "Caitibug" also has a sensory processing disorder. Stress & excitement cause over stimulation in Caitlin--which in turn cause more frequent seizures. Since being diagnosed, her seizures have continued to increase in severity as well as frequency, despite being on 4 medications. A day of 6 seizures is considered a very good day for her. There have been days with 24-30 seizures. At this time, it is difficult to even go to the grocery store, let alone playdates and preschool. Due to the frequency & intensity of seizures during a period in 2009, Caitlin was recently also diagnosed with static encephalopathy which has led to a diagnosis of autism as well.
Caitlin has been approved for a seizure assistance dog. This dog will hopefully allow Caitlin relief with her anxiety & over-stimulation, along with giving us a peace of mind in alarming us, & hopefully someday detecting, Caitlin's seizures. The dog should help calm Caitlin in stressful situations, easing the burden on her nervous system.
